Lance Corporal Nick Erdy was honored with the Navy Commendation Medal with Valor, for the heroic actions that saved his friend, and fellow Marine Scott Bunker. Erdy pulled Bunker out of harms way after he was shot in the eye while the two were part of Operation Matador in Iraq in 2005. Lance Corporal Erdy died shortly thereafter.
Clifton Edward Snell was awarded the Navy Cross. Mr. Cross was aboard the Aircraft Carrier U.S.S. YORKTOWN (CV-5), in action against enemy Japanese forces during the Battle of Midway. Mr. Snell is credited for keeping the YORKTOWN moving with enough speed to launch U.S. aircraft by keeping the boiler hot enough despite damage to the boiler room.
